Reduce Chemicals

Healthier fruit by reducing chemical levels on your ocean shipment

As a consumer, you can’t always rely on the EPA to protect you from the dangers of harmful chemical residue from pesticides like chlorpyrifos on the fruit you eat.

As a grower or exporter, you can rely on Ozone to reduce chemical residue on your perishable commodity during the ocean leg of the journey from field to consumer market in order to deliver a healthier product.

The banning of chlorpyrifos highlights the danger to human health lurking on the skin of non-organic fruit.

Nearly 70 percent of the non-organic fresh produce sold in the U.S. contains residues of potentially harmful chemical pesticides, according to EWG’s analysis of the latest test data from the federal Department of Agriculture. This year, along with the items on our Dirty Dozen™ and Clean Fifteen™ lists, EWG is highlighting harmful fungicides detected on citrus fruits tested by USDA, as well as in tests we commissioned.

Purfresh offers the only Ozone Atmosphere and Controlled Atmosphere with Ozone service that provides a truly non-chemical or organic treatment during the ocean voyage. Ozone helps to slow the ripening of the fruit, eradicates harmful pathogens such as Salmonella and Listeria, AND REDUCES chemical residue levels on the skin of the fruit.

Purfresh recently partnered with Prairie Berries of Keeler, SK, Canada to conduct laboratory tests using Synergistic Pesticide Laboratory proving conclusively that Ozone oxidizes chemical residue on the skin of fruit to leave a healthier commodity.
